Did you know another word for potato is spud? Well, some say they started calling it “spud” to deter people from eating them in the 19th century, but actually “spuds” is very good for you if you eat them in the right way. Today we’ll be calling them spuds instead of potatoes.
There are so many different kinds of spuds in the world, and they’ve been used differently by so many cultures. Spuds are so versatile it that can almost be added into any dish. Even though it’s a starchy vegetable and “carb-shamers” love to criticize it. It actually has a lot of vitamins and minerals.
A lot of people eat spuds, but sadly most of the time it’s unhealthy. It’s an important vegetable for many businesses and farmers. Like chips and fries for example. Frito-Lay plant in Georgia uses over 1 million pounds of spuds a day. That’s just one company! Imagine how much Mcdonald’s or other companies use!

Spuds have vitamins and minerals like Potassium, Vitamin C, Magnesium, and etc. It’s a great vegetable to add to your diet if used correctly. They’re also cheap in most places in the United States. When making a stew you can add them in for texture and flavor.

All About Spuds: Easy Mashed Spud Recipe
This recipe is easy to make and it’s also customizable. You can add whatever you want to it. You can enjoy this during the colder seasons. This recipe will sure warm you up and leave a smile on your face!
The Steps to Make
You can use any spud for this recipe, but usually Russet spuds are used for this recipe.
1st– Fill a pot with water then bring to a boil. While waiting for the pot to boil, peel some spuds. It can be however much you want but make sure the pot is big enough for spuds to boil. For a single serving cook one spud. After you peel the spuds, cut them into big slices or chunks.
2nd – When the water is at a boil. You carefully put the spud chunks into the boiling water.
3rd – Wait 20 minutes or until the spud chunks are soft. Then drain the water from the pot.
4th – Grab a fork or a spud masher and mash them up!
Where The Customizing begins!
You can choose what you want to customize. You can choose to put sour cream or heavy cream or something else and different seasonings. Have fun!
5th – Put about a quarter cup or a cup of milk and put some butter and salt. Then serve, eat and enjoy! You can also add cheese, bacon or your choice of toppings. You don’t have to put any toppings if you don’t want too either.
